WASHINGTON, DC Congressman Ted Poe (TX-02) issued the following statement today after Gen. David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker delivered to Congress their assessments of our progress in Iraq:
Today we had the chief political expert and the chief military expert for the United States before us in the Foreign Affairs Committee. Despite the cynics, critics, and defeatists who want there to be bad news, General Petraeus informed Congress that military progress is being made.
Our job is not over in Iraq. It is in the best interest of America to finish our mission. War is hard, but retreat and a unilateral withdrawal is a plan for another Vietnam failure. Abandonment is what our enemy wants, but not what we will give them.
Congressman Poe serves on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Subcommittee on Terrorism and the Congressional Anti-Terrorism Caucus.
