Dear Neighbor,

Interested in learning more about human trafficking and what’s happening in our own backyards?  Join me tomorrow:

Did you know that human trafficking is a form of modern day slavery that is happening right here on American soil, right here in our community in Houston? This crime rips apart families and communities and robs the innocence from its victims. We must do all we can to raise awareness and combat this scourge on our society. This past summer, the House of Representatives unanimously passed my bill, the bipartisan Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act (HR 3530). This legislation creates a robust and aggressive strategy to address all three groups in human trafficking crimes: the buyer, the trafficker and the victims. It targets the root of this problem – demand – by going after those who buy other people and treating them like what they are: criminals. It also increases support and protection for those who have suffered, the victims.  Last month, the Senate Judiciary Committee passed the companion legislation to my bill out of Committee. I encourage Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to move this bill forward and take a stand against human trafficking.

I hope to see you tomorrow night. To RSVP or if you have any questions regarding the event, please call my office at (281) 446-0242.
