Interns in my Washington, D.C. office are given the opportunity to experience and learn about the legislative branch of government through semester-long internship programs. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to learn about the legislative process and federal government by working with legislation and communications staff members.
Responsibilities include answering phones, leading tours of the Capitol to visiting constituents, attending meetings and hearings as needed, drafting letters, and researching legislative issues, among other tasks.

Victims' Rights Internship
Congressman Ted Poe (R-TX) seeks a Victims’ Rights-focused intern in Washington, DC, starting January 2018. Responsibilities include: researching legislation and policy proposals on topics that include human trafficking, sexual assault on college campuses, and the rape kit backlog, attending and helping to organize briefings and events, monitoring hearings and markups, drafting letters and speech, and handling a number of other duties, including fielding telephone calls and giving some congressional tours.
The mission of the Congressional Victims’ Rights Caucus is to elevate crime victim/survivor issues in Congress in a bipartisan manner and to represent and advocate before the Administration and within Congress on behalf of crime victims and survivors. Since its inception in 2005, the Caucus has taken the lead to protect programs that provide critical support for victim services throughout the nation, including the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA), Violence Against Women's Act (VAWA) and the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act (TVPRA).
Applicants must have excellent written and oral communications skills, a general understanding of the legislative process, and an interest in learning more about crime and victims’ issues. Full-time is preferred, but part-time will be considered.
